A Little MLB

Now that we've digested yesterday's college football comings and goings, let's take a look at what's going on in baseball. Is there a more feel-good story out there than Rick Ankiel? Ankiel hit his sixth homer of the season and added a sac fly later on as well. This kid reinvented himself as an outfielder and he may not be the second coming of Barry Bonds, but that might be a good thing. After Ankiel couldn't hit the side of a barn with his pitches, I blame LaRussa for throwing him that pressure packed situation of game one of the 2000 Division Series, he put all that behind him and fought through the minors as an outfielder. Kudos to Ankiel. Also with all the divisions nearly sewed up, the N.L. Central seems to be the only one up for grabs. The Cubs are in the lead, but a revitalised St. Louis team is only two games back. The A.L. Wildcard is coming down to a three team race, with no one really wanting to come forward. The Yankees just lost two out of three against the Devil Rays, after they just swept the Red Sox. Seems like a classic letdown. Seattle has lost nine in row, and Detroit just can't put anything together. Although Kenny Rogers is slated to return so that should help. Other than that my beloved Braves just got swept by the Mets, so they're pretty much done, and that means so am I. At least my fantasy team made the playoffs after winning the division, and the better news is we have a first round bye. That should give Sheffield and Renteria both ample time to heal up for the stretch run. Keep your fingers crossed.
