Kevin Durant Rookie Of The Year

I guess the Seattle Supersonics did hit the lottery jackpot this summer by drafting Kevin Durant second. News came in today that Portland Blazers rookie Greg Oden will miss the entire season after microfracture knee surgery. As an NBA fan I feel so cheated. I know with modern medicine these days, Oden can make a full recovery and become the dominant center that everyone expected. It just seems like we may have to wait a year to see it blossum. NBA players are never quite the same after microfracture surgery. Many of them, including First Teamer Amare Stoudemire, claim to have lost a step and how the recovery time took longer than anticipated. The good news is Oden is still only 19, so this gives him plenty of time to recoup. The bad news is there seems to be a trend now with Oden and injuries. Last season at Ohio State he played with a wrist that hadn't fully healed since he broke it in the off-season, and now we have his knee injury. I'm not ready to write him off just yet and stick him in the group of draft busts like Sam Bowie and Michael Olowokandi, I'm just sad that the NBA and its fans will have to wait a year to see this kid and Kevin Durant go at it for bragging rights. Let's hope for a speedy recover and hope that Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard is around to see it.
