Raider Nation Welcomes Its Man...Finally

So the number one overall pick, JaMarcus Russell, finally signed with the Oakland Raiders. Now that the NFL season is a week old, I guess Russell and his agent felt it was time to get with the team. Is it just me or did this thing really drag on? Even hardcore Raider fans seem to have forgotten about their guy. To be honest I don't blame them, I can't even remember which draft he was picked first in. Russell signed a record deal for a rookie; $61 million, with $29 million of that guaranteed. After the Raiders lost to the Detroit Lions in the opener, it seems that the head brass felt it needed to get something done with the future of the franchise. I don't expect to see much of Russell this year, which is sad, because if he had gotten his ass to camp, he might have had a chance to start. Instead we get to watch Josh McCown and if he goes down, we get the washed up Daunte Culpepper. So as of now Russell is third on the depth chart, but he'll always be first in the depth chart of our hearts. Let's hope the wait will be worth it and we can see this phenom that everyone raves about. Hell, I want to see him throw touchdown passes for sixty yards from his knees like in the commercial. At this point I feel we deserve a bit of pomp and circumstance after waiting for this kid to get to work.
