Gimme Some Love

If the new USC recruit O.J. Mayo is the epitome of the modern day athlete, then UCLA recruit Kevin Love is a throwback. A throwback to the days when the most important thing, nay, the only thing was winning. Personal stats and achievements aside, your career was defined by championships. Just watching Love makes me, well pardon the pun, fall in love with him. His rebounding like Elton Brand, his outlet passes, reminiscent of another UCLA standout, Bill Walton. His defense and team play all will help UCLA be better than they were last year, and this is a team that has made the final four two years in a row. Love has the pedigree, his father is Stan Love, former Oregon Duck star and NBA utility man. His uncles are Brian Wilson and Mike Love of the Beach Boys. Not necessarily important as far as basketball goes, but something that just makes him even cooler. So while downtown at SC they'll bring in anyone to try and make the basketball program respectable, on the westside, UCLA is quietly building a team oriented powerhouse. Hey we all saw what happened with the last O.J. USC produced. Let's hope this one has slightly better results.
